Booking Problems
I made a booking last spring at Bamfield Trails. Some time later, but well in advance of my booking date, I called to cancel. Unfortunately my booking was not canceled and I was billed for $549.88 on my Visa, an error which I only noticed several months later. I have subsequently placed many phone calls to the Hawkeye Marine group only to be told that since there is no record of my cancellation they cannot refund my deposit. At the time of my original booking things were not running very smoothly at Bamfield Trails. The woman who took my booking is no longer with them, and it has been suggested by her replacement that things were not running well under her supervision. Despite this the Hawkeye Marine Group is unwilling to refund my deposit.
Even if you do not have to cancel a booking with Bamfield Trails you would be wise to carefully review their arrangements with them several times. My original booking was for accomidation for 3 or 4 anglers and one slip at the dock for a single 21.5 foot boat. Somehow this was misinterpreted as a request for 4 slips for docking. How could anyone think that 3 or 4 anglers would be using 4 boats?
I am still hoping that the new accountant, Donna, will realize that the problem was at their end and show that things at Bamfield Trails are now running more professionally by returning my deposit.
Until that happens I suggest you think twice before leaving a deposit with Bamfield Trails or the Hawkeye Marine Group.
